Joan McFarlin Riggs Secrest
Joan McFarlin Riggs Secrest, lifelong Ponca City resident, went to be with the Lord on July 10, 2003. She was 69.
The funeral service will be Monday, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Trout Funeral Home with the Rev. Kent Dorsey, pastor, First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Joan was born July 12, 1933, in Ponca City to Earl and Elizabeth Jewell McFarlin. In her youth she became an outstanding twirler and performed with the band in high school. She was also a Junior National Champion swimmer, and was a pioneer for women's swimming in Oklahoma. She attended Oklahoma State University where she was a twirler with the marching band.
In February of 1953 she married Harold W. "Hal" Riggs. They remained together until Oct. 1, 1985, when Hal died.
Joan worked at Conoco where she was in the Upstream Accounting Department until her retirement in 1996 after 26 years. She took up the game of golf in the early '90s and became an avid golfer, playing many times per week after retirement.
In 1998, Joan met Bud Secrest and the two were married in March of 1999. Together they enjoyed traveling and golfing.
She is survived by her husband, Bud, of the home; two sons, Steven Riggs and his wife Gerre, of Edmond, and Stan Riggs and his wife Kea, of Roswell, N.M.; a step-daughter, Susie Patison and her husband Ken, of Ponca City; her mother, Jewell McFarlin, Ponca City; her sister, Donna Patrick of San Diego; and seven grandchildren, Crista and Sara Riggs of Edmond, Reagan and Caden Riggs of Roswell, and Karson, Keaton and Ian Patison of Ponca City.
In addition to her first husband she was preceded in death by her father.
Casket bearers will be Jim Crosthwait, Jim Brown, Mel Knight, Bill Hill, Frank Weber and Larry Harrison.

The family misses her greatly, but rejoices in the knowledge that she is with the Lord and no longer ill.
