Lova Mildred Wiles
Lova Mildred Wiles, longtime Ponca City resident, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at the Fountains at Canterbury in Oklahoma City. She was 90.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2003, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. J.D. Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery at 2 p.m. in Pawnee with the Rev. Eddie James of Masham Baptist Church officiating.
Lova Mildred Wiles was born June 12, 1913, on a farm in Pawnee County, the daughter of James Albert and Mary Ann Dick Rau. She attended Lone Jack School and graduated from Pawnee High School in 1932.
She married William "Bill" Wiles on June 5, 1938, in Ponca City. He worked for Cities Service Oil Company and Lova was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers of the AFL-CIO Union. She was also an active member of the Pioneer Campers of the National Campers and Hikers Association, a lifelong Democrat and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ponca City.
After her husband's death on June 27, 1982, she began working in the Mother's Day Out program at the First Baptist Church in Ponca City. She made many trips to Europe, Asia, Israel, South America, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, New Zealand, and Australia, and to many library conventions in the United States and Thailand. She also went on a Methodist Volunteers in Mission trip to Kenya working at the Maua Methodist Hospital. She fought cancer for the last five years but still made trips to Hawaii, Russia, Finland, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, and took cruises to Alaska and down the Columbia River in Oregon. The highlight of 2003 was her trip to the Taj Mahal and the celebration of her 90th birthday.
Survivors include her son, Edwin Wiles of Oklahoma City; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends around the world.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Viola; and two brothers, Herbert and James.
Casket bearers will be Jay Ramanjulu, Kywhan Kim, Huspong Thirasutr, Sean Ting, Kamsay Chansombat and Masayuki Ito.
Honorary Casket bearers will be John Hess, Nicholas Espinosa, Hollis Campbell, Joshua Lo, David Browning and Carl Coates.
