A celebration of life for Eileen Sara "Boots" Metz of Grass Valley will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Metz residence, 510 S. Auburn St. in Grass Valley. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Grass Valley.
Mrs. Metz died Tuesday, May 6, at a local medical facility. She was 74.
She was born Nov. 13, 1928, in San Francisco to Irvine Edwin and Margaret (Phillips) Green. She was raised in Alleghany, where her parents owned and operated the Alleghany Hotel. She was 4 when 14 buildings in Alleghany were destroyed by fire in 1933, including the family hotel. They moved to Grass Valley, where she attended Mount Saint Mary's Catholic School. She married Anton Metz Jan. 7, 1945, in Sparks, Nev. She was a homemaker and enjoyed selling Avon products. She was a baseball fan, attending the local Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball games.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Anton "Tony" Metz of Grass Valley; sons and daughters-in-law Fred and Melinda Metz of Grass Valley and Richard "Rick" and Becca Ray Metz of Cedar Ridge; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret M. "Sue" and Alan Rietter of Kenai, Alaska; daughter, Judy Imperiale of Eagle River, Alaska; grandsons Bradley Metz of San Francisco, Marcus Metz of Nevada City and Jacob Metz of Santa Rosa; granddaughters Antonia Rietter of Kenai and Jillian Metz of Cedar Ridge; and nephew, Thomas I. Green. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Fred and Raymond Green; and son-in-law, Thomas Imperiale, in 2002.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Aid Thrift Shop in Grass Valley or the charity of the donor's choice.
