Mr. Howard was a British actor who was featured in British and American films for more than four decades. He made his London stage debut in 1934; a decade later, he appeared in his first film, THE WAY AHEAD 1944. A sensitive performance as the romantic lead in BRIEF ENCOUNTER (1945) made him a star, and thereafter he was known for his mature, understated characterizations.
His wonderful performance with Deborah Kerr in the 1947 production of "The Adventuress" aka I SEE A DARK STRANGER, will remain a treasured classic. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his work in SONS AND LOVERS 1960. One of his final roles was in SUPERMAN 1978. A fine gentleman - he will be missed . . .
