As far as I know, there are two major Ober lines in the eastern U.S. One immigrated to New England (there are many around Beverly MA) from England. I suspect they originated in the Alsace region of France (Auber). The second, to which I belong, emigrated to Philadelphia in 1729. There is reason to believe they were from around Basel, Switzerland, but I can't document that for certain (Oberer). From there many settled around Lancaster Pa, although others spread out to the midwest, particularly Indiana. That's where my grandfather lived for awhile and married.
I used to have the New England genealogy but it's buried somewhere in the cellar. What I do have in the computer is the Pennsylvania Obers, if that might be of some help.
