This is a reply to my Genforum message of June 22,2003 in which I was searching for the parents of Hannah Stevens/Stuckey (1809-1851) married to Jacob Ober (1801-1855). Hannah's paternal ancestors, extending to the 1500's can be found in a 1998 notebook authored by Dale Steffey of California. The book is on file at the Blair County Genealogical Society, Hollidaysburg, PA.

Hannah was one of 13 children of John "Nicholas" Stephens (1777-1861) and Mary Unknown. Mary came form Maryland, and according to Steffey "some say she was an Indian Princess". Nicholas and Mary outlived Hannah. They removed to Benton County, Iowa in 1850 where Nicholas's will was probated in 1861. It appears that Hannah was, in no way, related to the Stuckey Family. Does anyone know why or how she became known to many of us as Hannah Stuckey? This occurs in a number of places including research records of the late Frank Bayer of New Enterprise, PA in his 1985 "Kagarise Family History" (See Page 70).
