Ober Family document, 17/1800s

Gosh, I was hoping this would be a vibrant forum with hundreds of Ober descendents posting...

BUT... I was walking through an antique shop in Asheville NC where I was visiting my sister, and they have a framed document in the shop that I would die to have if it were on my line. You don't see things like this every day... and if I knew where one was in my own line, I'd snap it up wherever I found it.

It's a "FAMILY REGISTER"... it begins with Joseph Ober - July 2 1784- Dec 8 1843 and Betsy Low July 9 1788 - Dec 26 1871, married by Rev. Joseph Emerson on Dec 17 1808.

The children are Betsy (1810), Elenor (1812), Joseph Low (1814), Emeline Elizabth (1818), Richard (1821), Sarah Low 1825, John Richard (1829), and Augustine (1831).

The hand-written "certificate" contains some marriage and death dates for these children as well. I forgot to write down the name of the farm, but I swear it was something like "Beverly Farm" as the location. It's yellowed, but in great condition, with some charming illustrations at the top of families cavorting in empire gowns and high necked suits indicitive of the fashion of the age.

If this is your line and you'd love to have this document back in your lineal hands... don't contact me. I don't have it.

But because, as a genealogist, if I would WANT to know if something like this were for sale in my line, I'm telling OBER genealogists, who are NOT my line, that it's out there and where it is.

It sits in an antique shop called Magnolia Beauregard's on 52-B Broadway in Asheville, NC (28801), and the business phone is 828-251-5253.

Good luck to all you Obers out there, and if someday the descendents of these folks are reunited with the document, drop me a line.

Christine
