Thanks for getting back to me. I am related to you, but very, very, very distantly! Let's just say, all of the Obenlands are related!

Based upon the information I've found, yhou are the 14th great grandaughter of an unknown Oppenlander. I am the 13th great grandaughter of that same man. This unknown Oppenlander lived in the 1450's in Germany.

I started researching back in the 1970's but after about 5 years, my kids were both in school, so I went to work. Several years ago I had to retire due to a bad back. I pulled out the genealogy and started again. At first I was only going to do my immigrant ancestor, Ernst Gottlieb. Then I decided to do his two brothers families as well. Then in a moment of sheer insanity, I decided to do ALL of the Obenlands, here in the US and back in time to Germany. I now have just about 5,000 people on the family tree, with more to add.

The family tree, when done, will be on my website There's nothing there yet. I'm still doing research and gathering photos.

Which brings me to my questions: 1. Can I get some more info from you regarding your branch of the family? 2. Do you have any pictures of your family now and in the past? If not do you know of anyone who would? The tree is going to include as many photographs of people and places that I can find. 3. Can you email me directly at

(This email invitation applies to anyone researching the Obenland family and all of its descendants.)

Hope to hear from yhou soon! Thanks,

Cecilia Obenland Joder
