I am looking for the parents of 2 people who I think are related to some of the names mentioned on this thread.

1. I'm looking for the family of Ellzay/Elzay/Elza/Elzy Courtney/Coatney born in 1783 in Fauquier Co., VA. I have narrowed the search down to him either being the grandson of William Courtney and Mary Barbee or James Courtney and Christian Humphrey.
Elzay married Sarah Haley in 1806 in Fauquier and then sometime after, moved to Fleming Co., KY where they stayed. They had 5 children: Elizabeth who married Elisha Price, Margaret(Peggy), my ancestor, married James Caywood, Mary Ann married John Price, William Franklin married Nancy Reeves and Louisa, no information about her.

In Fauquier, the Courtney families were connected to some of the following names: Williams, Duleney/Delaney, Foley, Bryant/Briant, Threlkeld, Lewis, O'Bannon/O'Bannion and more.

Many of the relatives and descendents of Elzay Courtney were interred in the cemetery, Poplar Run, including Mary O'Bannon, wife of Alcanon J. O'Bannon and daughter of William Barbee and Susannah Thompson. This brings me to the 2nd person I'm looking for.

2. William M. Thompson born 1897/98 in KY. The 4 census records I have are divided. 2 say he was born in KY and 2 in VA. His children say he was born in KY. I'm thinking that he was from a county in VA that became a county in KY. I have no clue as to who his parents were except..........he left KY around 1828 and went to Putman Co., IN. There he met and married Susannah Gough Fall, widow of Jesse Fall. Susannah's brother William Coldstream Gough married Catherine Thompson, daughter of David Thompson and Mary Swope.

I have seen where it looks like some of David Thompson's children were in Putnam at one time. Sometime after William Thompson and Susannah Gough married they moved to Butler Co., OH. I think they may have also lived in Preble and Clermont counties before settling in Hamilton Co.,Jackson Township, IN where they stayed.

William and Susannah had 5 children: Enoch, William F., Henry, Elizabeth and Mary (Martha).

Could William be connected to the Susannah Thompson who married William Barbee? Harold Rarden mentioned the name Swope in one of the posts.

The only description of him is from a Gough family reunion. Someone said he came into town coming north from KY. He had a wagon pulled by Jet black horses and was very handsome. I guess that htese horses were impressive at the time.
Since William was 30 years old when he left Putnam, It makes me wonder if he had married and his wife died leaving no children since none but his 5 children with Susannah Gough are mentioned in his will. Also, where did he get the money to buy an impressive rig? Did his father pass away and leave him inheritance money. He was listed as a farmer on census records.

Anyway, I would really appreciate any help I can get for these 2 searches.
