Thanks for the input. John Alfred Oates birth date is right and I know from the census that his father was also named John, so John Yarboro Oates fits and they are from NC. I can't find any other references to John Alfred being John Yarboro's son but I don't have access to anything but RootsWeb.com. Do you have any other sources you could share with me or suggest another place to look? This is my wife's family and it's driving me crazy!
