I do not believe that our family and the Irish family are connected. The Irish John died in Pennsylvania in 1776.
Yet Our John from North Carolina who married Elizabeth BLOUNT in 1742, was in North Carolina when he died in 1784.
The Irish line was Calvinist, while ours was Anglican. james and Elizabeth were married in a civil wedding ceremony in 1694, because they were not Quakers. The Quakers were the only ones at the time holding religious marriage ceremonies. There names do not appear in the Meeting Houses list of Quakers. Also Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of Quacker Genealogy does not list them either. There also several OATES on the parish register of Bruton Parish as late as 1756 in York County also among them are a James, and ELizabeth plus an Abigayle. THese could be descendants of Our James and Elizabeth. After James death in 1703 shemarried a Rchard French in Perquimans County N.C.
