HOPE SOMEONE CAN VERIFY SOME OF THIS:
An interview between E. Ray Austin of Byrdstown, TN and J----- J---- of Boma: "Cricket Oaks raised a family and never was married. I just knew her, Frank, and Norm. Well, uh, her daughter got "knocked-up" by my uncle Alvin Whitehead. Earl Oaks raised Norman. Earl Oaks set right here in my house and said that Lon Carr (Robert Alonzo Carr?) cut Norman's head off with an axe, and married his wife (Lucinda Bussell). I always heard that Lon killed Norman Oaks. Earl Oaks had a girl named Maude and my uncle Alvin Whitehead got her fixed-up (meaning, pregnant). She married a Harlan (??) Jared. Maude had a boy, but my uncle Alvin was the father, because Alvin got her pregnant. Earl Oaks set right there in that chair back in June (1993) and he said that Lon Carr cut Norm's head off for his wife, Lucinda Bussell. George Carr, brother to Lon Carr, killed a Revenue Officer, and old Mash Carr killed Jim, his brother, and he ran off to Florida and got away from here because if he hadn't, some of the other Carr's would have killed him. Some other names I remember are: Joe Carr, Bird Carr, Lon Carr, Alvin Whitehead, Maude Oaks, Leonard Oaks, Cricket Oaks and Frank Oaks". (Recorded by: E. Ray Austin)

DEATH-SOURCE: PUTNAM COUNTY HERALD, Cookeville, TN., Wednesday, February 24, 1909, states: Norman Oaks Killed. Norman Oaks was killed Monday afternoon near his home not far from Boma by Lonnie Carr, his head being nearly severed with an axe. It is reported that Oaks assaulted Carr with a knife while the latter was cutting wood.

NOTE: Someone has said that Norman and Lonnie were cutting cross ties, hewing them out with an ax cause they didn't have a saw or saw mill then, they got in an argument over something and Lonnie picked up an ax and just cut his head off.

NOTE-SOURCE: Robert Lonzo "Lonnie" Carr (b) ,,TN Feb 22, 1888 (d) Oct 17, 1925. Buried in Carr Cemetery, Silver Point, Putnam Co., TN. Married: Sep 24, 1905 to:
Estella (or Estelle) "Aunt Tedge" Webb, d/o John Webb & Mary Medley. "Lonnie" Carr was s/o John Byrd Carr and Mary E. Lee.

COMMENT: A story that has been passed down by different family members states that Norman Timothy Oaks was always a big bully. Mrs. Lily Ford of Monterey, said her husband Benton Webster Ford, laughed about him (Norman Oaks) getting killed, because he always said Norman Oaks was mean to his family.

MARRIAGE: December 21, 1907, Putnam County, TN. Recorded at the Putnam County Courthouse in Cookeville, TN., Book 4, page 435. There is a Certificate of Marriage request signed by both Norman Oaks and Miss Cinda Bussell (believed to be her 2nd marriage).
