Oakleys in Rockingham County NC in 1800's

My ancestor James L. Oakley was b. Apr 1823 in Virginia. He married Annie L. Evans or Ivins ca. 1843. In the 1850 census he was farming in Rockingham County NC and was the neighbor of Judea, Peter, John, and Richard Oakley. By 1860, he had moved to the Mt. Airy district of Surry County NC and had children Matilda, Robert, Dorothy, William, James, and Martha. May have served in the Confederacy as a guard at Salisbury prison. In 1900 he and Annie lived in Dobson. My last record of him is a 1902 voter registration in Franklin township of Surry County.

I would like to hear from anyone who has researched any of the names above. I have information about James's children, but have not determined who his parents were.

Some of my research is online at http://home.earthlink.net/~glendaalex/jamesoakley.htm

Thanks, Glenda Alexander
