Oakley Family Genealogy Forum

Thanks Ronald. This points me in a different direction on a family mystery. I found on roll 524, page 175 of the 1840 census in Hickman County, Tennessee the my OAKLEY family listed as Upps OKELY with (1 male 20-30) must be Upton S. OAKLEY, (1 female 20-30) must be his first wife Mariah Dodson OAKLEY, the daughter of David DODSON and Deborah FITZGERALD, (1 male under 5) must be their son Fieldon D. OAKLEY. Later they had the following children; Pheabe Jane K. OAKLEY (1841), Cordelia OAKLEY (1843), William D. OAKLEY (1845), Mary Melvina OAKLEY (1847), and Charles Pincton OAKLEY (1853).
Upton Samuel OAKLEY married a second time to Luiza Jane OAKLEY in Maury County, Tennessee and had two more children named Frances Alsenda OAKLEY (1854) and Thomas W. OAKLEY (1855).
I have always thought the Upton's parents were George OAKLEY Jr. of Shenandoah, Virginia and Sarah UPTON of Rowan County, North Carolina who settled in Trigg County, Kentucky.
But a pension application recently found dated Jan 3, 1826 for Abraham PARKER living in Maury County, Tennessee talks of his daughter but her name not listed as a widow with five children named Jack OAKLEY (1811), Ginney OAKLEY (1813), Upton OAKLEY (1815), William H. OAKLEY (1817), and Fulden OAKLEY (1819) places my old findings in doubt. This makes me think that Upton's mother was named PARKER and now I must search for the name of her husband and a possible marriage record in Orange County, North Carolina as that is where Abraham PARKER was said to be from.
