Joseph Oakes was baptized 11 November, 1770, Yaxley, Suffolk - buried: 25 August, 1853, Cratfield, Suffolk. Jonathan's mother was Phyllis Rumsby (daughter of Philip Rumsby and Mary Huggins) who was baptized 25th March, 1770, Cratfield, Suffolk and was buried at Cratfield 27 November, 1850. They were married in St. Mary's, Cratfield, 23, July, 1797.

The parents of Joseph Oakes were Richard Oakes and Elizabeth Mounser. Richard Oakes was christened at Yaxley, Suffolk, 3 July, 1737 and buried at Yaxley 22 August, 1810. Elizabeth was christened at Eye, Suffolk, 16 July, 1738. She died and is buried at Yaxley, 9 November, 1787.

Children of Joseph Oakes and Phyllis Rumsby were:

1. Jonathan Oakes (1791 - 1878)m. Dinah Short - came to Canada in 1836. Their daughter, Harriet married my ancestor Robert Barber in 1836.

2. Phyllis Rumsby Oakes - baptized 26 November, 1797, Cratfield, Suffolk

3. Harriet Oakes - baptized 24 May, 1818, Linstead Magna, Suffolk

4. Robert Oakes - baptized 15 November, 1805, Cratfield, Suffolk

5. Mary Oakes - baptized 17 March, 1799, Cratfield, Suffolk

6. Henry Huggin Oakes - 5 June, 1808, Cratfield, Suffolk
