Re Julia Nye-Brown's grandfather Bernard Donald Beresford Nye born in Dulwich SE London.

My grandfather was Stanley Harold Beresford Nye - her was born in Dulwich and had two sisters: Beryl Irene Beresford Nye, Pearl B. Nye - and 3 brothers: Leonard, Reginald and Bernard Donald Beresford Nye!

Bernie's wife was called May and they had a daughter (name unknown by me) and a son John.

Stan had three children: Ursula, Margaret and Paul. Paul Beresford Nye married Margaret Humphreys and had three children: Stephen John Beresford Nye, Rachel Louise Beresford Nye and (me) James Alexander Beresford Nye.

Stan (my grandfather) was the son of Harold Beresford Nye who was born in Dublin 1875, but moved to London aged 1. He died 1936. Stan's mum was Eleanor (Nellie) Neighbour (1874-1972).

Harold had brothers George, Frederick, Charlie and Albert, and sisters Bessie, Kathleen and Caroline.

I do not know who Harold Bereford Nye's parents were, and would dearly love to know if anyone has more information about this. Stan always maintained that he was related to the Beresfords who are the Marquis and Marchioness of Waterford in Ireland. He remembered that his aunt Carrie (Caroline) used to visit two aunts Beresford who were nuns in an open order (ie allowed to keep their money).

It was Stan's wish that his genealogy be researched. He was contacted at one time by Col. Hugh de la Poer Beresford who wrote The Book of the Beresfords. The Beresford Family Association has traced their line back to at least 1087 (official) and further back.

So if I could trace the connection with the main branch of the Beresford line, that would be fantastic.

I've tried e-mailing Julia Nye Brown, but I think her e-mail address must have changed. If anyone knows how to contact her, please let me know. If you're reading this Julia, please get in touch. I think we must be related!

Best wishes, James Nye
