St. Charles (Illinois) Chronicle, March 7, 1940:

Wasco News of 35 Years Ago
With a three-weeks old baby in her arms and a little tot of two years by hand, Mrs. John Nyberg (of Wasco) ran a quarter of a mile Wednesday afternoon to find help to put out a fire in her home, caused by a defective flue. The down river electric car was passing just south of Five Islands, when the crew stopped, hearing her cries, and five men volunteered to help. Climbing barbed wire fences and racing through mud roads, they secured buckets and in an hour’s time save the house. Lyle Shibley of St. Charles and James Flinn of Elgin were two volunteers.
