The funeral of Police Justice Frank H. Mathews was held from the family home at the corner of Lake Avenue and Smith Street, at 2 P.M. last Saturday, the Rev. R. D. Brownell officiating. Internment was made in the family plot in the Butler Center Cemetery, the site is which as well as of the church and parsonage, was given by his grandfather Hibbard.
In our second edition last week we briefly mentioned the death of Mr. Mathews, which occurred shortly after 4 A.M. on Thursday October 22nd. He had been ill in bed for about two days though his health had been impaired for much longer.
His age was 75 years, he having been born in Huron, Jan. 17, 1956, the elder son of Lawson and Charlotte Hibbard Mathews. He was a widower, being survived by his only son, Wayne Mathews and two grandchildren, with whom he lived,
The deceased was a member of the Wayne County Bar, and for the past 9 years had been police justice of this village. He also had served as Justice of the Peace, both in Butler and Wolcott.
In early life he taught school in the South where he married, later returning to the Mathews(now Seymour) farm in Butler, where he lived until he moved to this village.
He belongs to one of the pioneer families of this section. The late Ernest Mathews, of Butler, was his younger brother.
