Hoping someone can help me... my g-g-grandmother always maintained that she was an orphan. Her name was Almira Mary Cleveland and she was born around 1845 in New York. I find record of her (at least I think it's her) in the 1850 Warren County, NY census with parents Benjamin and Lucinda Cleveland and her sisters. By the 1855 state census, Benjamin is alone and there is no sign of Lucinda or the daughters. I am trying to figure out what happened and/or find some record of her over the years. The next I know of her is 3 Feb 1867 when she married Samuel Galusha.
Does anyone know anything about this family or can you tell me where I might find records for orphanages in the area at that time?
