Hi! As some of you know I have been searching for Joseph Davis originally
from Sullivan county then to Delaware county NY for a long time. I believe
Josephs family was a Prosper Davis born circa 1800 in NY. His wife was
Harriet Davis born about 1802 in NY. Their children:
Elvira, Elisa, Elina...born about 1840 in NY
John born about 1836 in NY
Bodoin?...male born about 1839 in NY
Emily born about 1838 in NY
Sarah born about 1845 in NY
Joseph born about 1844 in NY **** (believe him to be our Joseph that I have
been searching for)
Harriet born about 1846 in NY
and Prosper jr born about 1850
I found this family in the Town of Bethel in Sullivan county NY. I found that
interesting because my Joseph Davis married a Lucinda Jacoby from Sullivan
county and in 1850 theres a Jacoby family, with Lucinda (I believe mine)
living in Bethel, Sullivan, NY not too far from each other.
Lucindas family went to Liberty, Sullivan NY..I cannot find Joseph after 1850
however he cliamed he was from Lumberland, Sullivan, NY. He enlisted in
Tusten in Sullivan, NY.
He married Lucinda Jacoby and moved to Fishes Eddy, Hancock, Delaware, NY.
Estella born circa 1868..I believe she died young
Michael born 1870 died Dec. 9, 1894 in Walton, Delaware, NY
Martin born Feb. 25, 1871
George born Dec 19, 1873
Clarence born July 9, 1876
William born July 3, 1877
Lucinda died July 3, 1878.
It appears the family fell apart after that and Joseph never remarried. I
cannot find Martin, George or William. I did find Clarence davis..he married
Lena Downs in Tompkins, Delaware, NY and had Cecil Ray born 1900 and Ethel
May born May 25, 1901. Interesting..Clarence most like left Lena for a woman
named Hattie In Walton, Delaware, NY. I find Lena listed in 1910 (Census)
living with parents and brother but cannot find her children. Later Ethel May
married James Lockwood in Delaware County.
In 1900 Joseph was living with his niece Kittie Mosher and his nephew George
(although census may have that wrong..George may be his son George) and
livig next door is another George davis and a Lucinda Davis..Lucinda is
listed as a cousin.
I cannot find any Davis after that! In Michael's 1894 obituary it mention
that the Joseph, Michael and George were living in marvins Hollow, outside
Walton, Delaware, NY...they were all quarry workers.
