Hi, James. Thanks for the quick reply and help. I have read the histories now, and Sullivan County seems likely, but here we are ...
My wife's 4G-grandfather was William Heustis, born 1770. I think he was the one in Sullivan County in 1810, Town of Thompson. We recently were able to trace his land purchase and sales in Westchester County circa 1792, and subsequent purchases and sales in Dutchess County, Town of Clinton (where the extant biographies for the eldest son said he was born in 1793.) He sold his land in Clinton in 1804. So I was hoping to see whether we could find his Sullivan/Orange County purchases after 1804 and before 1810.
(My wife's 3G-grandfather(s) in the Heustis line (and the allied Odells) moved from Orange County in 1855-6 to Illinois, and the biographies mentioned above suggested that the eldest son (who migrated earlier) was in Newburgh circa 1815, so either County would appear to be possible. It is also my understanding that the Orange County Courthouse burned and early records were destroyed.)
