If I remember right, Mamakating was a town in Ulster pre-1809. But it encompassed parts of other towns that broke off later when it became Sullivan County. Tell me where you are looking and I can check the History of Sullivan County and the old Sullivan County Gazeteer. You might also try the Sullivan County Hist Soc website to check the history of the current towns.
