Must be hardly anyone checks out this site, I found it by accident. Catherine(s)Town (Catharine - proper spelling)was named after Queen Catharine Montour, Chief and Indian leader who was in the area during The Sullivan campaign to bring the Indians under control. It then became Havana, NY by an act of the NYS legislature. Some time after Schuyler county became an official county in 1854 with parts taken from 5 other counties, the name became Montour Falls, NY.
