I phoned the Surrogate Court just now and they told me they require $30.00 just to search to see if they have a record. However, they said that if a local person comes in and searches themselves, then there is no fee. I am doing family research for my dear aunt and there is a genealogy posted online that goes back to Colonial Massachusetts, the mid 1600's. I can tie her line into that genealogy, if I can just establish the connection to the Nathaniel Niles who reportedly died 9-16-1825 in Berlin, Renssalaer County. His wife Abigail died 3-11-1833 in the same place. Would some local researcher please check the court index for me to see if there is a probate record for either Nathaniel or Abigail and if so, do the records list any heirs? I should add that I checked with the Historical Society and their records do not show anything for either Nathaniel or Abigail, but they told me that it is still possible that the Court will have a record. Many, many thanks!
