I have a "brick wall" in my ancestor's Elizabeth White (b. about 1808 NY) and her husband Jacob Gibson ( b. about 1805 supposedly in NY). I have Elizabeth on the 1850 Hartwick Ostego NY census living with her children and an older couple named Vanderwasker (or Vandenwasker). John J. Vanderwasker age 70 born NY Shoe Maker Harriett Vanderwasker age 62 born NY Chauncey Gibson age 17 birthplace not marked Mercy Ann Gibson age 12 birthplace not marked John W Gibson age 9 born NY Amenzo Gibson age 4 born NY Betsey Gibson age 42 born NY (also living in this houshold are the following) Maria Rathbone age 29 born NY Melissa (Melipa?) Rathbone age 1 born NY Dewitt Smith (or Smitts) age 22 born NY- can't decipher occupation James D. Moore (?) age 15 born NY Elizabeth ( Betsey) White Gibson and at least sons, John White Gibson, Chauncey White Gibson and Emory Menzo Gibson all migrated to Ogle, IL. I have census records for the three boys in IL by 1860 and for Elizabeth starting in 1870. Family records also list children Martha Ann (b. 1832), Lavina (b. 1836), Harriet (b. 1838) and Austin (b. 1841). While there is an Austin Gibson in IL the dates are much different and he seems to have been born in Canada. This family genealogy was done by my great grandmother who was married to the son of Emory Menzo Gibson. I can find no documentation for these additional children. As for Jacob Gibson, family records say he died in 1856, however, he is not living with his family in 1850 so I don't know if that is valid. Emory Menzo Gibson's death certificate lists his father as being born in Herkimer NY, but as this certificate was filled out by his son, and contains other known errors, again I don't have concrete proof of this birthplace. Any help would be appreciated as I seem to go around in circles on this line. Thanks, Lucia Finley lkf46@hotmail.com Notify Administrator about this message?
