Maxine,
There are three towns named Fernwood in NY, in Saratoga, Sullivan & Oswego counties. I think the one you want is in Oswego. It is or was a hamlet in the town of Richland. On the 1850 census in Richland (pg 224) is Erastus Holdredge (spelling on the Ancestry.com index)age 30, a farmer, Maria E., 35, & children Mary J., 6, Isabel G., 5 & Ellen, 4. Erastus was b. CT, & the children in NY. I can`t make out Maria`s place of birth although the index says NH.
