I know that the IGI and Pedigree Resource File at www.familysearch.org show a 1780 or 1781 birth date for Silvanus. I believe several facts point to an earlier birth. In both the 1800 and 1810 census, Silvanus and his wife are 26 to 45, pointing to birth between 1765 and 1774. His widow, Betsey Southworth is older than 45 in 1820. Also, on Dec. 21, 1793, Sylvanus Southworth became a member of the First Church of Burlington, New York (where his brother, James Southworth was pastor), indicating he likely was an adult by then. I would give a best estimate based on these dates that Silvanus was born between 1765 and 1772, making him 47 to 53 when he died in 1819. He may have been given an estimated birthdate of 1781 based on his son Schuyler's age of 47 in 1850 and 57 in 1860 (born 1802, assume father at least 21 when Schuyler was born).
Have you seen the will, or are you working from the transcript in "ABSTRACTS OF OTSEGO COUNTY WILLS, 1794-1850"? This source has some errors, so the original might clarify. I have not seen either; do you have names of the other sons from the will?
I too am working on a possible link to Silvanus Southworth, for Rev. John H. Southworth, born abt. 1793. He left Otsego County for Calhoun County, Michigan in the 1830s, and also named a son Tracy H. Southworth.
Where and when have you found records for Truman Southworth and John Tracy?
