Well, it's back to Mary J. Mathewson, b. 1816 in Otsego Co NY. I had a streak of luck in the last couple of weeks and extendedmy Hatton lineage by three generations, to colonial Virginia. Now, Mary J. is the only brick wall at the gr-grandparent level.
I had finally wised up and written away for her death certificate. WOW. For her parents, only surnames, no given names. Moreover, it had her age wrong too. About the only new concrete knowledge was the birth in Otsego Co, NY.
So, I hied myself up to the library this afternoon. Census for 1810 — eighteen Mathewson (Matterson, Matteson, etc) in Otsego Co, and only one identified by name. The rest have only a first initial, and five of them are A. Big Help.
In the 1800 census, fifteen Mattersons; in the 1820 census, twenty-four. Add to that the New Berlin Mathewsons that traipsed back and forth between the counties, and there is just too much. Haruuumph.
Anybody out there know a Mary J. Matthewson?
