What I've been able to find is that my Elias Fox was found in the 1840 census of Otsego County, NY, Butterfield Twp. Shortly thereafter he moved to Barry County, Michigan. This is from his daughter's obiturary, Harriet Fox Wyble. Elias married Susan Chadwick,(as listed on Harriet's death record) and she was supposed to be half Iroquois Indian, but I've no proof only rumor. Elias Fox is buried in Ellis Cemetery, Barry Co., MI and the dates on his stone are born 1808; died 14 Jan 1858.There is no death record for him. And I didn't find his wife Susan in any additional censuses, but I do have her signature(Suzanne Fox) on a document dated 18 Apr 1867.
The birthdate is right for your Elias Fox. His daughter's(Harriet's-who is my great, great grandmother) obituary also says she had 4 sisters and 1 brother none of whom survived at the time of her death in Apr 1926. Unfortunately, none were named.
I found 3 Elias Fox's listed in New York for enlisting in the Civil War. None of them could be my Elias Fox because he died before the war began.
