The LDS library has the 1855 census on film. There are two films covering the county, each having different town(ships), alphabetical A-Z. The census can help locate a specific county of birth within the state of NY if your ancestor has always listed 'NY' as place of birth. It also lists everything about their homestead, and near the end of each town(ship) lists the churches operating at the time within the town(ship)and also other places of business.
