The Necrology Report of the Old Settler's Association for 1888, as reported in the Joliet Daily Republic and Sun, Sept. 7, 1888, gives this:
"J.C. McCreary. In the township of Plainfield, Sec.33, J.C.McCreary, a well-to-do farmer, died in April. He was born in "Benton, Ontario County, N. Y"., July 1, 1810 and came to Will county in 1845."

1830 CENSUS YATES COUNTY, NEW YORK
This was the first census in which the County's entire modern area was enumerated under its present name. The County was formed in 1823 from five towns in Ontario County, but had its present boundaries established in 1826 when Starkey and Barrington were annexed from Steuben County. This brought the total number of towns in the County to seven; Middlesex included the modern town of that name, plus Potter; and Milo and Benton included the modern town of Torrey between them.
(The map showing the towns in 1825 would show the same boundaries in 1830; the only difference is that the two southernmost towns were now part of Yates County instead of Steuben.)

MCCREARY JOSEPH 224 MID
