I have read an interesting account of a Ira Polley from NY who fought in the Patriot War, was captured by the British, and sent to Australia. He and his fellow captives endured terrible hardships. He stayed in Australia and his descendants live there today.
If you haven't heard this account (it is from the Polley Pointers newsletter) and are interested, I could send you a copy.
