Tom, I am trying to find information about the Prouty's of Onondaga Co. in the 1830's and in the 1850's & 1860's.
A cousin of my Grandfather, Salmon Stephen Prouty, was born in Van Buren, Onondaga Co. in 1835. Parents were Stephen & Sarah Almira (Willard) Prouty. The write up on Salmon in the History of Kansas states Sarah Willard Prouty was of the ol;d Plymouth Colony stock, and "the late Lieutenant Governor Willard of Indiana Was of the same family".
My Grandfather, Phocian Stephen Prouty was born in Onondaga Co., N.Y. in 1859 or 1860. I do not have his parents name, but I know he had a brother, John Jay, who later lived in Baldwinsville, N.Y.
I am trying to find the connecting family link between the two of them. The Prouty names were unusual ones: Phocian, Salmon, and my Dad was Horace Stephen. The name's Stephen and Richard seemed to run in the family, too.
Can you find any thing about this branch of the family. Arizona is a long way from New York.
Thanks
