Pat McCarthy & sister Mary (Shaw) 1870's

  of 1914

Patrick McCarthy born c 1844 (maybe earlier) came to the Auburn and Syracuse area which are in Onondaga and Seneca counties, in the 1870's. He had come to Hastings village in Ontario in 1854 with his parents Patrick McCarthy and Catherine (Tierney). He was around there as late as 1869 (in militia rolls) and was the sponsor for his niece Ellen, daughter of John McCarthy and Ellen McCarey in 1864. Ellen was orphaned by 1871. Did she ever go to live with her godfather's family in Ny state? She was with her mother's McCarey parents (Thomas and wife Ellen) until 1881 at any rate. I can find no other record of Patrick save a reference to his presense at his mother's funeral in Hastings in 1902 stating he was from Auburn. His sister Mary married Peter Shaw, son of Edward Shaw and Joanne (Ohewin?) in 1871 in Hastings. They moved back to Syracuse where the Shaws were from right after the marriage. I can find them in St. Joseph's online cemetery listing. Peter apparently died in an accident in 1884. There are other Shaw children in a nearby plot. Mary died of pnemonia in 1913 and is buried near Peter. Anyone descended from this family, please contact me as I am trying to piece together a family history of Patrick and Catherine's descendants.
