DR. L.A. NEARING DEAD: A DENTIST 47 YEARS
Dr. Lucius Alexander Nearing, a dentist in Syracuse since 1863, died yesterday morning at the residence of his son, Dr. George E. Nearing, No. 616 West Onondaga street, after an illness of three weeks. He was 85 years old. Dr. Nearing was born at Pompey, where his father located in 1800, having come from Connecticut. During his early life Dr. Nearing was a carpenter and cabinet maker at Pompey. After his marriage to Miss Mary A. Hayden, a sister of S.C. Hayden, in 1851, he was in the cabinet factory of his wife's uncle, C.J. Hayden, at Rochester. He later studied dentistry in the office of Dr. A.H. Morgan, begining the practice of that profession at Pompey.
Besides his widow and son, Dr. Nearing is survived by a daughter, Mrs. C.H. Mosher, and a sister, Mrs. Harriet Noble, both of Syracuse. The funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock to-morrow afternoon. Interment will be private.
