McMahon Family (some names unknown)
Posted by: Sonja Bittner (ID *****3151) Date: February 17, 2012 at 12:18:50
  of 1914

One Onondaga family is proving very difficult for me!
According to all of the records I have access to (birth certificates and census records), my great-grandmother was Gertrude McMahon-Wood b. 1892 in Solvay, Onondaga, NY

Her parents were:

Unknown McMahon b. New York
Margaret Unknown b. 1867 Germany

It appears that Unknown McMahon died prior to the 1900
census, so his first name and year of birth elude me.

He would almost certainly have appeared with his family in the 1890 census, but those records no longer exist. Margaret and the children appear to have been separated at the time of the 1900 census, working in assorted households.

They appear back together in Syracuse in 1910. Their names are:

Margaret McMahon, head of household, widowed, b. 1867
John T. McMahon, son, b. 1887
Clara McMahon, daughter, b. 1889
Gertrude McMahon, daughter, b. 1892
Thomas John McMahon, son b. 1896

I'd like to identify the father in this family. I suspect he appears on the 1880 census, somewhere in Onondaga County, but I need a first name.

If anyone recognizes any part of this family and can help me to identify the father OR to find Margaret McMahon's maiden name, I would be most appreciative!
