I have Joseph H[enry] Potter born about 1808, Onandaga, NY.
Joined the U.S. Army in 1828. Was stationed at Fort Gibson, Arkansas, until 1833, during the years of the Trail of Tears. Discharged at Fort Gibson in 1833 and homesteaded near there in Arkansas.
Married Anna Catherine Server in the 1840s; married Mrs. Catharine Matilda Perkins about 1858. The second Catharine received a widow's pension based on his service.
Named his sons Thomas Jefferson Potter and William George Potter.
Joseph was my great, great grandfather. I would love to know anything at all about his ancestors or any clues you might have.
