My grandfather, Milton Delmar Bracy was born in Painted Post, Steuben Co., NY and is 1/64th American Indian although I do not know which ancestor we can attribute that portion of our nationality to. We also came from VT to NY (to California).
Knowing that many Brace/Bracey/Bracy's although spelled differently, are sometimes closely related, I thought I would take a shot at knocking down my brick wall.... (and maybe making a link for you as well!) My oldest ancestor I have found in my Bracy line was Nathan Bracy/Bracey b. VT btwn <1788-1796> and married first to Esther Cleveland (7 ch.)then 2nd to her sister Celinda(Malinda) Cleveland (no child). Both are daughters of Solomon Cleveland and Esther Knight.
My line is my dad, Richard Allan Bracy b. CA(1)
married twice 5 kids;
Milton Delmar Bracy b. NY (2);
m. Irene Mahala Galyean 3 kids
Harold Earl Bracy b. NY (3);
m1. Mina Luetta Vaughn (div-2 kids)
m2. Lila ??
Martin Scott Bracy/Bracey b. NY(4)
; m. Anna Best (5 kids)
John Bracy/Bracey b. 1821 Stony Isl., Jefferson Co., NY(5); m. Eleanor P. Brown (Roach?) (unk#ch)
Nathan Bracy/Bracey b. VT.
m1. Esther Cleveland (d. 1834-35)7 kids
m2. Celinda Cleveland no kids (Celinda does leave her estate to her adopted dau Martha Bracey who was living with cousin James Cleveland on one census and cousin Bert Bracy on another)
My cousin has a letter stating Nathan was related to a Cornelius Bracy/Bracey (either father, uncle or brother we have not been able to tell) who lived in the mid 1800's in Sackets Harbor, Jefferson Co., NY.
Nathan was b. in Bennington, VT and on the
1810 Census Bennington VT
1820 Census Henderson, Jefferson Co., NY
Btwn 1821-1829 then they lived with Cornelius in Sackets Harbor, Jefferson Co., NY
1830 Census Elbridge, Onondaga Co., NY
1834-35 Esther Cleveland Bracy dies in Spafford Hollow, Onondaga Co., NY
1840 Census Spafford Hollow, Onondaga Co., NY
1850 Cenesus Wirt, Allegany Co., NY (Nathan and Celinda) (census states Melinda)
If any of these names ring any bells, Nathan is my brick wall I could use any help you could spare!!
Thanks in advance,
