I found my family on the 1880 & 1900 census in Brooklyn, Kings, NY. Carrie (Caroline) A. LAMB was born in NY in Dec. 1852, and her husband George D. PHILLIPS, was born in Ma., Nov 1840. These are my GGgrandparents. The census' indicate that the Parents of Carrie were both born in NY; and the parents of George were both born in MA. Their oldest son Willard Delano PHILLIPS is my Ggrandpa; he married Lois Minola RAYNOR of Manorville,LI,NY. My problem is this: I have found some evidence to indicate who were the parents of MY GGgrandparets. But I need to be sure. With a couple of new friends help, we have found the following information that seems to point to the parental line I am seeking.
A Caroline A LAMB age 21, was found in the 1860 census for Marcellus, Onondaga, NY. Her age does not match with the other census' but is does match much better with George's age; and she has a brother Willard, age 15. Her parents are Charles Lamb, age 47 and Mary, age 46. There is also a brother Henry, age 18 yr.
My new friend Diana went back to the 1860 census and looked for a George PHILLIPS (soundex) born between 1835 and 1845 in MA. The only one in MA was already married. Others had the wrong middle initial. The only one that fit was the George PHILLIPS, age 24, living in Schroeppel, Oswego, NY. He was a master carpenter, born in MA and living with Daniel PHILLIPS age 75 and wife Mary age 67. If Mary is George's mother, that would make her 42 when he was born. There is also a female, Mary age 20, born in NY.
Going back to the 1850 census, Daniel and George are living in Schroeppel. Mary, age 58, is listed with the household next door with a Clark PHILLIPS (age 20) and a Clarenden PHILLIPS, age 18. George and Daniel PHILLIPS are listed with a family whose name begins with an "M". Most of the neighbors are farmers. The younger Mary is not listed in the 1850 census. When I researched the Daniel PHILLIPS of Schroeppel, I found in the "HISTORY OF SCHROEPPEL", Chapter 34, that Daniel PHILLIPS was one of the first settlers in that town in the spring of 1835. He was a wagonmaker by trade. Daniel PHILLIPS died there in 1866 at the age of 87 years. Daniel was also born in MA. But now I am at another brick wall. I can not locate the parents of Daniel PHILLIPS. I did find a 1880 census for Charles LAMB, b. abt 1815 NY; whose wife is Mary, b. abt 1818 CT, and they had a son Willard LAMB, b. abt 1851 NY and another daughter, b. 1863, Kittie LAMB. They are residing in Otisco, Onondaga, NY in 1880. This census indicates that the parents of this Charles LAMB were both born in VT. Can anyone confirm or refute the family connection that I seem to have at this point? If you have any info that could help me or, if you are related to any of the people I have mentioned, I would love to hear from you. PLEASE email me at <firstname.lastname@example.org> Thanks.
