EDWARD COFFIN was born in Lysander, Onondago County, New York, in l825. He was married to MARY J. STEWART in l847, and in l854 moved to Polo, Ill., where in l872 he suffered the bereavement in the loss of his faithful and devoted companion.

In l874 he moved to Tama Co., Iowa, and thence to Decatur County in l884. He was the father of five children, three of whom, MRS. J.W. WOMSLEY, of Greenfield, Iowa, MRS. FRANK RIDDLE and JOHN COFFIN, of Decatur, Iowa, are still living and in attendance at the funeral. He died of heart failure at the home of his daughter, MRS. RIDDLE, July 28, l904, aged 79 years, 2 months and 10 days.

MR. COFFIN was a worthy and excellent man, quiet, strictly honest and conscientiously moral. He was a devoted and affectionate husband and a kind, exemplary father.

He never was a member of any church but those who know how honestly and upright he lived have no doubt of his preparation for the future. The funeral services were held at the home and he was buried in the Decatur Cemetery.
