Mrs. E.C. Newton called by death
Mother of R.F.A. Principle. Had been invalid since 1925
Mrs. Emery c. Newton, 74, mother of Walter L. Newton, principal of the Rome Free Academy, died last evening at home of her son, 1008 N. Madison St.., She had been an invalid since 1925.
Harriet A. Newton was born at Davis., Pa., on March 27, 1858, a daughter of the late Wesley M. and Sally M. Newton, Upon the death of her father , who was killed in action in the Civil War, Mrs. Newton was admitted to the Mansfield, Pa , Orphan School and later completed her studies at Mansfield Normal School.
For a number of years she taught school in Northern Pennsylvania and in 1879 was married to Mr. Newton. In 1923 they came to this city to make their home. Mr. Newton passed away on January 1, 1925.
Mrs. Newton for a number years was a member of the Knoxville M. E. Church and recently became affiliated with the First M. E. Church here. She was a member of the Rome branch of the W. C. T. U.
Surviving besides her son are two sisters, Mrs. Emma Scholfield of Harrison Valley , Pa., and Mrs. Addie Stebbins Wellsboro, Pa. She also leaves three grandchildren, Mrs. G. L. Tooley of Stamford, N.Y., and Mrss Elizabeth and Bernauer Newton of Rome, all children of Principal and Mrs. Newton
