Dear Laurie, Kniley is a very unusual name. Most of our family came from the Central Pennsylvania coal regions. As with every other family, we are now spread all over the United States. Our specific family came from John Kniley and he had numerous brothers. There has always been an apocraphyl story that one of the brothers ran away from home and settled somewhere in the West. I have found a Kniley branch in Oregon. They have a son named John-not an unusual name but definitely a recurring name in our family. My Father was William Kniley and he had five brothers and sisters, all of whom are deceased. My brother, Ken Kniley has two married sons, Michael and Steven and they also each have a son. There is more information, if you are interested. I realize this is not Oneida County but because it is a rather unusual name and rather rare, I thought I'd send you a message.
