Rome, NY is located in the center of Oneida County. The Rome State School was located south of the City of Rome, at the corner of Rte. 26 S and Rte 365 and is now a prison.

The Rome State School housed mentally handicapped and prior to being called Rome State School it was also called the Rome Asylum which housed the "insane".
