Varnum Bitgood (1798 to 1830)?

Searching for info' on the family of Varnum Bitgood (b. 1798, d. 1821-1830), incl. children & spouse(s), siblings, parents & ancestors. Facts (& sources where known) I am already aware of incl.:

Varnum Bitgood was born March 07, 1798 in Voluntown, [then in Windham County] CT, the son of John & Lydia (Mitchell) Bitgood (Vol. Vital Rec., vol. 1, 210). He married, possibly to a girl named "Polly(?)" [MNUnk], who was probably born between 1794 - 1804.

They had at least one son, born between 1810 & 1820 (1820 Census).

Besides his birth in the Voluntown, [then in] Windham County, CT, VRs, the first notice I have had that Varnum survived childhood was the discovery of him in the 1820 Census in Voluntown, with a wife (presuambly) and a son. There is no entry for his marriage in
Voluntown, nor for the birth of any child. Varnum is listed in 1820 as engaged in Agriculture, suggesting land ownership.

I could not locate them in the 1830 Census in CT or RI. But I have now been reliably informed that a "Varnum Bitgood" was in Oneida County, NY, in the 1830 Census. This could just be coincidence, but I consider the name Varnum so rare as to likely be the man I am looking for.

Any help appreciated. Cheers! DC Young <>
