Hi Bud--You've been very helpful! The Samuel Winch you found in the census is (I'm convinced) the father of the one I'm looking for, b. in 1790's. Samuel's (sr) wife was, it appears, Elizabeth Maynard, sister of Needham Maynard whom you list as one of the first settlers. The Maynards and Winches all came from Framingham, MA. Samuel Sr was b. in either 1755 or 1760 (there were two Samuels in the same family), and Elizabeth was b. 24 April 1761. The history of Framingham by Temple has Maynard living first to Fitzwilliam NH, and then transferring his church membership to Whitestone. Do you have any idea what church that would be? Where would birth and marriage records be found for 1790's, Oneida County? You seem to be the official historian of the region--a very worthy calling! Thanks again, Barbara
