Ahh you are right, it was the wrong orphanage. Sorry about that.
The problem you are going to find is that town clerks only kept vital records for a short time, 1847-1850, until the state mandated vital records in 1881. I have lots of Oneida County folks who fell into that hole.
Church records might be your only recourse there, if you can find them.
