James M. CLARK: The gentleman whose name heads this sketch was born in Oneida Co., NY, May 12, 1842, and is a son of Thomas CLARK who was born in Lincolnshire, England, in 1812. The latter named gentleman --- coming to the United States in his 19th year located in Oneida Co where he was employed on a farm. He later bought a farm in New York State and resided there until his decease, which occurred in the year 1889. --- Maria (BROCKHAM) CLARK, the mother of our subject was born in Schenectady, NY. her father participated in the War of 1812. Mrs. CLARK died in NY after becoming the mother of eight children, five of whom are living. James M., of this sketch --- remained under under the parental roof until reaching his majority --- in 1869 --came West and located in Massillon (Stark Co., OH) --- The lady who became the wife of our subject in Aug. 1872, was Miss Ellen CHANDLER, who was born in this state. Their family of three children includes a son and two daughters, namel; William, Nellie, and Florence.
