Yes, that is my father. The transcariber made a mistake and it should be Kapke. You can see it when you look at the original record.
Both my mother and I have done separate searches, she in the 1940's and I in the 1960's. I guess that I think that somewhere out there, someday I will find a record.
Here's what I know tonight as the man says!
Henry Sr took out papers in 1885 in Albany for cizenship. Dorothea arrived in November of 1886, with her daughter Katherine. Katherine should have been in school by then, but I could find no record. Henry Jr. was born May 25 1888. I assume he was baptized somewhere in Albany, or if they lived in Oneida, in that area, but I don't have an address to know where they lived. She was a devout woman.
A letter from the NY State Dept of 1939 to myt mother said that they had searched from 1887 to 1889 in Utica and found no record.
A letter to me dated January 28, 1965 siad they searched from 1883 to 1886, 1886 to 1889, and 1889 to 1892 for Albany New York and found nothing.
It was only recently that I found a listing in the Directory for Oneida for his father Henry P W Koepke on 143 Harriet Street. I am certain that this cigarmaker was my grandfather, as he was Henry Peter William Koepke. Since the listing only showed him and not Dorothea, I can't be sure where she was at that time. Oneida is so close, I can't believe she wasn't there too, and that she had one child in school. Henry Jr. would have been a toddler. If there was a German Luthheran Church near there, she was probably a member, if it is still in existance.
