Debbie,

On the 1900 census Nathan CHAMBERLAIN, a farmer, b. May 1849 is in Clay, Onondaga, NY with wife Carrie, b. June 1850 & Mabel, b. March 1895 & twin sons, Earl & Floyd b. Sept. 1889. Nathaniel`s parents were b. Massachusetts.

In 1850 the only Nat* Chamberlain (using Soundex to search)on the index in NY is in Clay, Onondaga Co. He is with Jonathan, 47 & Diana, 50, CHAMBERLAIN both born in Mass. Nathaniel`s age is given here as 4 but age errors are very common on census records. It`s also possible the 1849 date on the 1900 is an error. The other children in this family are: Aaron, 20, Mary 14 & Jonathan, 11. There is a William CHAMBERLAIN, 23 is next door with Melissa, 24 & Mary, 4 months.

In 1860 the family is still in Clay. Nathaniel is 14. The surname is spelled CHAMBERS, a mistake by the census taker.

Pat R.
