You are right about the Josiah Daniels in Tully on the 1850. He is still there in 1860 living with a wife, Vesta Ann & his mother Eleanor.
I checked for J Daniels, JP Daniels, P Daniels & PJ
Daniels using the Soundex option & came up with none who were born NY about 1833/34 or even within 5 years of 1833. There is a Josiah Daniels in Tolland Co., CT. who is age 16, b. 1833 but he was born in CT. He is not living with his parents; he is listed as a laborer in the family of Nelson Keeney. I did find Josiah & his family in Iowa on the 1870 but can`t seem to find them in 1860 in Illinois where their 11 year old was born. Sorry I couldn`t help more.
